This talk is with Tommy Bækgaard Kjær and Tommy Kristoffersen. We talk about cancer in the fire service. We cover equipment, cleaning procedures, saunas and other things related to preventing cancer.

Tommy Kristoffersen

Tommy Kristoffersen is the section leader of emergency preparedness at Bergen Fire Department in Norway.

He has 25 years of experience where 20 of those are as a firefighter and the last 5 yrs as a fire officer with commander in chief duty.

He is also the co-founder and chairman of the board in the Norwegian Firefighters fight cancer union.

Tommy Baekgaard Kjaer

Tommy Baekgaard Kjaer has served as a public firefighter in Denmark for 27 years, from early 1987 to late 2014 included:

Educated and trained as fire officer and instructor from State Fire service.

Special trained as:

  • Professional rescue diver.
  • High rescue.
  • Chemical diver.
  • Certified in “Reconstruction and Integration of Traumatic Stress”.

Worked with psychological health for firefighters since 2004 and with occupational cancers since 2010.

Editor of firefighter magazine from 2005 to 2017.

Union leader from 2010 to 2020. Member of board since 2006.

Board member (Vice president) for European Firefighter Unions Alliance EFFUA from 2008 to 2020.

Founder and president of “Danish Firefighter´s Cancer Organization” BFC since 2013.

Author of numerus articles about occupational health and safety for fire fighters.

Speaker to fire fighter organizations, Universities and Parliaments around the world about occupational health and safety for fire fighters.

Member of deferent expert and working groups working for a fire safe Europe.

Member of honor upon “The Nordic Firefighters” NBS 2015.

Winner of “The Danish Community Awards 2015”.

Chairman of CTIF health commission from 2020.
